Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler and Somali Defense Minister Abdukadir Mohamed Nur signed a landmark agreement in Istanbul today.

The financial cooperation agreement, focused on military development, underscores Turkey’s commitment to supporting Somalia as it rebuilds its armed forces and strengthens national security.

The agreement was signed during a high-level meeting, part of the Turkish delegation’s visit to Mogadishu to witness the docking of the Oruc Reis seismic survey vessel, which will conduct gas exploration off Somalia’s coast.

Minister Güler was joined by Turkey’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, further highlighting the comprehensive scope of Turkish support for Somalia.

Under the terms of the agreement, Turkey will provide essential financial assistance directed at key infrastructure and military projects, which will enhance the operational capacity of the Somali National Armed Forces.

These investments align with Somalia’s broader efforts to stabilize and develop its military after years of conflict, helping to improve quality of life and operational readiness among its forces.

Turkey’s presence and assistance have become a cornerstone of Somalia’s security infrastructure. In recent years, Turkey has established its largest overseas embassy in Mogadishu, built a military base in the capital, and trained over 6,000 Somali soldiers to aid in the country’s ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab.

This agreement solidifies the robust partnership between Turkey and Somalia, showcasing their shared commitment to a secure and prosperous future in the Horn of Africa.
