The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in cooperation with the Federal Government of Somalia, carried out a planned airstrike targeting members of the ISIS group operating in Somalia.

According to a press release from the Somali government, the airstrike took place about 70 kilometers southeast of Bosaso, in the Bari region of Puntland State.

The government stated that this operation is part of efforts to support Puntland’s Darawish Forces, who are conducting ongoing operations against terrorist groups in the area.

So far, the Somali government has not provided details about casualties from the strike, saying investigations are still ongoing to confirm the results.

The Federal Government of Somalia expressed its appreciation for the strong cooperation with international partners, especially the United States, in working to ensure peace, stability, and the elimination of terrorist groups in the country.
