New York, USA(Mogadishu24)–The United States has announced nearly $424 million in additional humanitarian assistance to support people in need in Sudan and neighboring countries hosting Sudanese refugees.

This includes more than $276 million from USAID and over $147 million from the Department of State. The announcement was made by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, during a Sudan-focused event at the UN General Assembly High-level week, calling for global action to address the escalating humanitarian crisis.

USAID’s contribution includes $175 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Commodity Credit Corporation to purchase, ship, and distribute approximately 81,000 metric tons of food commodities to aid more than 1.2 million people facing acute food insecurity in Sudan.

The funding will also support UN and nongovernmental organization partners in providing essential food, health, nutrition, and protection services to those affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan and surrounding regions.

With this latest funding, the U.S. has provided over $2 billion in humanitarian aid to Sudan and neighboring countries since April 2023. The U.S. government continues to urge other donors to support these efforts and calls on the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces to protect civilians, facilitate aid access, and end the conflict causing immense suffering.
