London(Mogadishu24)–The United Kingdom has welcomed the agreement reached between Ethiopia and Somaliaon December 11, 2024, in Ankara, under Turkish mediation. The deal reaffirms both nations’ commitment to respecting each other’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

In an official statement, the UK expressed its support for the agreement, highlighting its importance for promoting cooperation, stability, development, and shared prosperity in the Horn of Africa.

“The UK welcomes the agreement reached in Ankara on 11 December between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and the Federal Republic of Somalia, reaffirming their commitment to one another’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity,” the statement read.

The UK commended Türkiye’s role in mediating the talks and acknowledged the constructive participation of both parties that led to the breakthrough.

As a long-standing partner in the Horn of Africa, the UK reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Ethiopia, Somalia, and Somaliland to achieve stability and prosperity in the region.
