Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-James Swan, the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia and Head of the UN Assistance Mission for Somalia (UNSOM), on Sunday arrived in the Mogadishu. Somali Minister of Information, Daud Awies Jama, welcomed him at the airport.

Mr. Swan’s mission is to support the Federal Government of Somalia and its people in advancing peace, security, development, and state-building priorities. His appointment by UN Secretary-General António Guterres was announced on May 14.

Having previously served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia from 2019 to 2022, Mr. Swan brings extensive experience from his career in the U.S. diplomatic service.
