Meeting with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni, Laing discussed the state’s development programs, humanitarian needs, and political climate.Laing praised President Deni’s recent cabinet appointments and highlighted the United Nations’ dedication to supporting Puntland’s government and populace, especially in facing challenges such as a recent cholera outbreak. She underscored the potential of Puntland’s fisheries sector as a major economic and nutritional resource, given the state’s extensive coastline.The visit also focused on reducing political tensions between the Federal Government of Somalia and its Federal Member States, prompted by ongoing constitutional amendments. Laing acknowledged both parties’ concerns and lauded President Deni’s commitment to dialogue and finding solutions to ensure an inclusive process for Somalia’s progress.This visit marks Laing’s fourth to Puntland since her tenure began in 2023, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to aiding Somalia towards development and stability.
