DiCarlo, arrived in Mogadishu on Thursday as part of her official visit to Somalia.DiCarlo was welcomed by Acting Special Representative James Swan and Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, who briefed her on the country’s recent advancements, particularly in the security sector.During their meeting, Minister Fiqi and DiCarlo discussed the upcoming National Consultative Council (NCC) meeting scheduled for October 26 and Somalia’s ongoing transition to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).Fiqi expressed optimism that the UN Security Council would positively consider Somalia’s proposals regarding its security efforts. DiCarlo, in turn, welcomed Somalia’s new role as a member of the UN Security Council and pledged support for capacity-building efforts to strengthen Somalia’s influence on the global stage. While DiCarlo did not publicly comment on the details of her visit or who else she would meet during her stay in Somalia, her arrival comes at a critical time. The last NCC meeting, held two weeks ago, ended without an agreement due to the absence of Puntland and Jubaland states. However, the Somali government confirmed that the NCC will reconvene on October 26 to address pressing national issues, including elections.
