Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Fran O’Grady, Chief of the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) met with Somalia’s National Security Adviser, Hussein Macallin, to discuss enhancing the Somali Security Forces’ capacity in explosive ordnance disposal and counter-IED measures this week.

The meeting underscored UNMAS’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia in its efforts to eliminate explosive hazards.

The discussions come amid a rise in incidents caused by explosive remnants of war and Al-Shabaab-planned roadside bombs, which have resulted in heavy casualties among civilians and government forces in southern and central Somalia.

Despite ongoing efforts, the threat from explosive devices remains a significant challenge in the region.
