Bosaso, Somalia – The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has announced that, in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, it conducted an airstrike in northeastern Somalia, near the city of Bosaso.In a press release issued today, AFRICOM stated that the strike killed one member of the ISIS group in Somalia and that no civilians were harmed.“AFRICOM’s current assessment indicates that the airstrike killed one ISIS terrorist and that no civilians were injured or killed,” the statement said.The operation confirmed that ISIS-Somalia remains a threat to US interests and has the capability to plan and conduct attacks.The statement also emphasized that AFRICOM will continue working closely with the Somali Federal Government and the Somali National Army to reduce the ability of ISIS-Somalia to plan and execute attacks that threaten US interests both in the region and globally.
