By Asha ElmiMOGADISHU, Somalia – The Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) and Boundaries, Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, announced today that voter registration equipment will be dispatched tomorrow to the cities of Baydhabo, Dhuusamareeb, and Jowhar as part of the nationwide voter registration campaign.The Chairman made the announcement during a consultative meeting with political parties on submitting candidate lists, held in Mogadishu.Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan also confirmed that a large delegation has been sent by the Commission to the federal member states to inspect polling sites and oversee the transportation of registration equipment as well as the launch of the voter registration exercise in the Hirshabelle, Galmudug, and South West states.“By tomorrow morning, we will have begun sending voter registration equipment to Baydhabo, Dhuusamareeb, and Jowhar.” said the Chairman of the National Independent Electoral Commission.He further confirmed that registration will commence on June 10 in the cities of Lascanood, Dhuusamareeb, Jowhar, and Baydhabo within the federal member states.The Chairman added that the registration campaign is progressing well in the Banadir region, where 60 registration centers are currently operational.
