Hargeisa, Somaliland – The President of Somaliland, Cabdiraxmaan Maxamed Cabdilaahi (Cirro), addressed the recent conflict in Buqdharkeyn, extending condolences to Somaliland forces who lost their lives in the clashes, which he described as an unjustified attack. Cirro made these remarks during the International Women’s Day celebration on March 8.President Cirro condemned the attack, calling it an “unjust aggression” against a peaceful area, emphasizing that Somaliland remains committed to defending its sovereignty.“I deeply regret the unjust aggression launched against a peaceful area. As we have pledged, we will defend our nation,”said President Cirro. He further stressed that the conflict would not change Somaliland’s stance on peace, but rather, it would reinforce their commitment to national defense.“A conflict imposed on us will not deter our pursuit of peace. We will continue to seek peace while strengthening our defense,” Cirro asserted. The Buqdharkeyn clashes, which occurred in Sool region, resulted in casualties, with both Somaliland and SSC-Khaatumo authorities blaming each other for the violence. The area has witnessed previous battles, and tensions remain high.Cirro’s new administration had earlier expressed its preference for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflicts in Sool and Sanaag regions. Recently, the president appointed a peace committee to facilitate dialogue, though the latest clashes risk reigniting hostilities.
