Mogadishu, Somalia – On May 28, 2025, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, reappointed Hassan Mohamed Hussein, popularly known as Muungaab, as the Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu.This appointment followed a recommendation from the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation to remove the former Governor of Banaadir, Mohamed Ahmed Amir.Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab) has held several key positions within the Somali government. He previously served as the Chairman of the Military Court, Governor of Banaadir Region, Mayor of Mogadishu, and Deputy Minister of Justice.Muungaab holds a PhD degree in Law from Omdurman University in Sudan, where he also completed his other academic qualifications.The former governor, Mohamed Ahmed Amir, served from December 10, 2024, after succeeding Madale, who held the position twice before.Profile of Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab):Born in 1972 in Kigasho, Warsheekh District, Middle Shabelle Region.Appointed Chairman of the Supreme Military Court in 2014.Also appointed Governor of Banaadir Region in 2014.Founder of the Justice and Development Party of Somalia.Graduated in 2002 from the International University of Africa, Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies, earning a first degree.
