Garissa(Mogadishu24)-At least 20 passengers were on Monday morning confirmed dead and most of 30 others still stranded after their boat capsized at Punda area in Tana River county near Garissa city, northeastern Kenya.According to the local authorities, the boat was heading to Garissa, carrying 50 passengers aboard and the incident happened before reaching its destination. rescue operation is still going on, despite missing about half of the passengers on the boat.The Tana river has burst its banks following heavy rains in most parts of Kenya during the past two weeks.The Garissa- Nairobi high has been cut off by the floods in Modogo, not only destroying the infrastructure, but also risked the boats using the rivers.About 100 people are believed to have died in recent rainy floods in Kenya while 20’000 others displaced according to Kenya’s Red Cross.BREAKING: 20 people confirmed killed in Kenya's Mai Mahiu town following landslides due to heavy rains.
