Wajid(Mogadishu24)-The Somali National Army with the support Ethiopian troops under African Transition Mission on Tuesday killed 25 Al-Shabaab militants and injured several others in Wajid district in Bakool region. The operation was a response to a planned Al-Shabaab attack on an Ethiopian airline delivering humanitarian aid.The governor of Wajid district, Mohamed Macallin Yusuf, confirmed the incident and stated that five of the militants killed were foreigners.However, Al-Shabaab militants claimed that they attacked the Ethiopian forces and killed 8 Ethiopian Army soldiers.Over the past three weeks, the extremist group Al-Shabaab has intensified its attacks on military bases and civilians in Somalia. They recently reclaimed Geriley town, captured the Goofgaduud-burey location, and carried out targeted assassinations of several former and current leaders of the country.Moreover, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack at the Jaalle Siyad Military training centre, which was carried out by a suicide-bomber who detonated himself.
