Wajid(Mogadishu24)-The Somali National Army with the support Ethiopian troops under African Transition Mission on Tuesday killed 25 Al-Shabaab militants and injured several others in Wajid district in Bakool region. The operation was a response to a planned Al-Shabaab attack on an Ethiopian airline delivering humanitarian aid.

The governor of Wajid district, Mohamed Macallin Yusuf, confirmed the incident and stated that five of the militants killed were foreigners.

However, Al-Shabaab militants claimed that they attacked the Ethiopian forces and killed 8 Ethiopian Army soldiers.

Over the past three weeks, the extremist group Al-Shabaab has intensified its attacks on military bases and civilians in Somalia. They recently reclaimed Geriley town, captured the Goofgaduud-burey location, and carried out targeted assassinations of several former and current leaders of the country.

Moreover, Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack at the Jaalle Siyad Military training centre, which was carried out by a suicide-bomber who detonated himself. According to their claim, the attack killed 73 soldiers.
