Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-A mother died, and four children were injured after several mortar rounds hit their residential homes in the Tarabush neighborhood of Wadajir district on Sunday morning.

Two of the injured children belonged to the deceased mother.

The mortar rounds also hit Dharkenlay and Kahda districts in the Benadir region, causing several casualties and destroying residential areas according to the victims and eyewitnesses

Benadir regional security forces have not commented on the mortar attacks that targeted different parts of the city and the damages caused.

Al-Shabaab militants claimed the responsibility for the attack and it said that it targeted TurkSom, a military base run by the Turkish Government in Mogadishu’s Wadajir district.

These mortar round attacks occurred just three days after a car bomb killed six people and injured more than ten in the Bula-burte district of the Hiiraan region.

There have been civilian casualties in the past few weeks following Al-Shabaab attacks on civilians with car bombs and suicide bombings targeted at crowded areas such as markets, roads and security check points.

Al-Shabaab has resorted to planned attacks on Somali National Army (SNA) bases and civilian targets, killing dozens of SNA soldiers and civilians.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared a “total war” against Al-Shabaab last year. Since then, government forces, together with the local community and international partners, have liberated more than 80 locations from the Al-Shabaab terrorist group.
