The Breakaway Republic of Somaliland has taken a clear stance, disassociating the Government of Somalia from any involvement in the ongoing conflicts in Las Anod, located in the Sool region.

According to the Somaliland Administration, the responsibility for the unrest lies squarely with the Puntland Administration, whom they accuse of spearheading the conflicts.

Speaking in a televised address, Somaliland’s Interior Minister, Mohamed Ahmed Kahin, made serious allegations, claiming that the State Forces had arrived in Tukaraq with intentions to initiate immediate hostilities in Las Anod.

“We, along with the people of Las Anod, express deep concern regarding this matter. The driving force behind these conflicts is the Puntland administration, not the federal government. It is the administration led by Puntland,” Minister Kahin stated.

This statement comes in the wake of the recent accusation made by the Somaliland Administration, alleging that UAE-trained forces have initiated attacks on Somaliland forces. According to a statement issued by the Somaliland Ministry of Defence on Thursday, these attacks have occurred amidst the ongoing conflicts in Las Anod.

The Ministry further asserted that these attacks have been perpetrated by a coalition consisting of UAE-trained Puntland Maritime Forces, Al-Shabaab, clan militias, and Somalia soldiers who received training in Eritrea.

“Our intelligence sources have unequivocally confirmed that the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF), trained by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to combat terrorist groups and pirates operating in Puntland-State of Somalia, has now joined this malevolent alliance. Disturbingly, they have assumed different camouflage uniforms to obscure their true intentions,” read the statement from Somaliland Ministry of Defense.

These repeated accusations made by Somaliland pose a significant threat to regional collaboration among the states, with potential consequences on trade and cooperation.
