Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-The Minister of Transport and Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon Fardowsa Osman Egal, has signed a Bilateral Air Service agreement with the Kenyan Minister of Transport, Hon. Kipchumba Mukomen on Wednesday, at Transcom House, Nairobi.

The Agreement allows designated airlines from both countries to operate 7 weekly frequencies for passenger flights on specified routes, with designated cargo flights having unlimited frequencies.

Kenya’s Minister of Transport, Mr. Murkomen underscored the importance of creating a mutual working relationship between the neighbouring countries.

“Today we have signed with our counterpart government, Somalia bilateral air service agreement. Countries that are operating civil aviation services must be able to have work relationships, that relationship defines trade in services, and the service here is air transport,” said Mr. Murkomen.

He added: “And there have been conversations for quite some time now to make sure that we formalize the already existing air Transport service between the two countries. In this situation, we can operate seven flights weekly frequencies of airlines that have been scheduled based on the annexes that we have in this agreement.”

On the other hand, Somalia’s Minister, Fardowsa Osman Egal, stated that this agreement will strengthen the ties and collective relationship between the contracting countries.

“Our two countries are sisterly countries, and I think this agreement will strengthen our partnerships and collaboration,” said Ms. Fardowsa Osman Egal, Somalia’s Minister of Transport.

This agreement shows Somalia’s commitment to strengthening relationships with its neighbouring countries. The mutual Air Service agreement between Kenya and Somalia is part of the two countries’ collaboration across various sectors, with a focus on key areas such as business partnerships and joint efforts against terrorism.
