Hargeysa(Mogadishu24)-Somaliland’s Attorney General, Abdirahman Jaama Hayaan, announced on Monday the execution of five men who had been convicted of murder.In a statement issued to the media, the Attorney General’s office confirmed that the execution took place in the Madhera area at around 7:30 AM.The five individuals who were executed were identified as follows: Ayanle Ahmed Ismail (23), Abdirashid Mohamed Askar (32), Liban Khadar Adan (25), Hamza Ali Ismail (26) and Hussein Arab Musa (60), all of whom were convicted of committing murder crimes in the past.The statement read, “I am informing you that on the 1st of November 2023, at around 7:30 in the morning, five prisoners were executed in Abdaal district, particularly in Madhera area. These individuals were convicted murderers.”The statement also added that the implementation of these cases was carried out in accordance with Islamic Sharia law and the provisions of the penal code applicable to the Somali people.“The execution of these cases was based on Islamic Sharia verses 178 and 179 from Suratul Baqara of the Holy Qur’an, as well as the Somaliland’s penal code articles 434 XCG and 246 XHC,” the statement added.The statement revealed that all charges against the convicted men were signed and approved by the President of Somaliland, Musa Bihi Abdi.A government official who spoke at the scene issued a stern warning to those who commit crimes, stating that anyone involved in criminal acts will be brought to justice.Somaliland has previously conducted similar executions in its areas. On January 15, 2020, six men were executed at Madheera prison, having been accused of committing murder crimes within Somaliland.
