Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The 41st session of the leaders of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) opened today, Saturday, in Djibouti, with the attendance of the leaders of its member states.The session will discuss the interests of the East African countries within IGAD, with a particular focus on security and stability issues in the region.The president of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Djibouti last night and is set to deliver a speech at the conference where he will discuss the recent achievements of the Somali government.“The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived in Djibouti to participate in the 41st extraordinary session of the Heads of the Regional Organization of IGAD,” stated Villa Somalia.According to reliable sources, the president will address Somalia’s recent achievements, including admission to the East African Community and the decision by the United Nations Security Council to lift the 31-year-old arms embargo.The session will also discuss the situation in Sudan and how to achieve a lasting solution to end the conflicts between the Army and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.Last month, the president of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met with President Ismail Omar Guelleh to discuss working towards finding a solution to the war in Sudan, promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa, and enhancing cooperation in international affairs.President Al-Burhan praised the vital role played by IGAD, under the Chairmanship of President Guelleh, in calling for accelerated efforts to put an end to the conflict in Sudan.Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also arrived in Djibouti City for the 41st Extraordinary Session of the IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government.Djibouti currently holds the position of the IGAD presidency, leading the 8 member states: Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
