Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday morning recaptured Masagaway district in Galgudud region and Amara town in Mugud region under Galmudug State in central Somalia, following reports that the Somali National Army and local forces vacated hours earlier.

The group claimed to have taken control of these towns without resistance from the joint forces who were for short months and killed a soldier in Masagaway town this morning.

But SNA forces did not comment on the reason of their retreat from these key areas so far.

These developments came a day after Somali Army Chief, Ibrahim Sh. Muhyadin visited Qorilow base in middle Shabelle region after the withdrawal of troops from African Union Transition Mission in Somalia at this FOB in December 20, 2023
