Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Republic of Djibouti hosted the African Statistics and Data Review day on Sunday, aiming to discuss the critical role of statistics and data security in fostering Africa’s economic sustainability.

The event was aimed at discussing and sharing insights between stakeholders, experts, and leaders on the importance of statistical framework in Africa’s economic growth.

It was attended by Djibouti’s Prime Minister, High Council of Statistics, and representatives from African countries.

Djibouti’s Prime Minister, Abdoulkadir Kamil Mohamed, stated that statistical and data protection have promoted decision-making and sustainability across the African continent. He highlighted the transformative potential of accurate and comprehensive data in guiding evidence-based policies.

“Statistical and data protection are the foundation for effective decision-making and sustainable development in Africa. By using the data, the government will make impactful economic policies and drive transformative change for the betterment of our continent,” said Prime Minister Abdoulkadir Kamil Mohamed.

Ibrahim Abdi Hadi, the Director of the Djibouti Institute of Statistics (INSTAD), highlighted the substantial progress Djibouti has made in aligning its statistical and data institutions with international standards.

“Our statistical and data Institute has transformed its policies and data management systems, meeting international standards. This shows the commitment of our government to promoting accuracy, reliability, and transparency in providing crucial data that promotes strategic decision-making for the economic development of our nation and Africa at large,” said Ibrahim Abdi Hadi, the Institute Director.

“Over the years, we have gone through a journey with an aim to transform our data protection systems and take part in the growth of our nation both economically and institutionally,” he added.

Djibouti has over the years transformed its institutions, including health, water, housing, and statistical and data institutions, while promoting efforts to empower the entire African continent through data-driven decision-making.

Its strategic location in Africa, coupled with unique natural resources, has positioned Djibouti as a key trade hub on the continent, attracting investments and strengthening bilateral relations with countries including France, the United States, Russia, Italy, China, and several Arab nations.
