Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, unveiled the government’s ambitious plan for 2024 on Sunday, with a particular focus on education, job creation, regional peace and stability.

In a statement from the presidency, President Guelleh highlighted the remarkable achievements of his government in 2023, especially in maintaining regional peace and stability. He reiterated the country’s ongoing commitment to peace and regional integration.

“Our country remains a centre of peace and stability, combined with our determination to preserve our unity and cohesion, as well as our ability to adapt to a changing world,” the statement from the Presidency read.

“Our development is linked to regional tranquillity and stability. This conviction is at the origin of our country’s constant commitment to peace and regional integration,” the statement added.

President Guelleh emphasized the importance of relying on Djibouti’s human heritage and providing high-added-value training in schools and universities.

He affirmed Djibouti’s commitment to job creation and empowering initiatives that foster creativity and inventiveness.

“To meet the challenges of an increasingly demanding, evolving, and competitive world, we must rely on our human heritage and on high added value training provided in our schools and universities. Thus, job creation will result from personal initiative, creativity, and inventiveness,” the statement read.

He expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning the atrocities committed by the Apartheid State and advocating for their right to control their ancestral land.

Guelleh stated that Djibouti would explore alternative methods to promote economic stability amid global challenges to the economy, including conflicts, tensions, and climate changes. He acknowledged the courage, perseverance, and contributions to the country’s economic growth.

“If this is a new crisis that militates against the economic interests of our country, we will be able to find alternative methods to promote our economic stability,” it added.

The President further expressed gratitude to the armed and security forces for their role in maintaining regional peace and security.

Djibouti has played a significant role in contributing to regional peace and stability.

Last week, the Djibouti Government facilitated talks between Somalia and Somaliland, which ended in an agreement on key points, including the commitment by both parties to resuming roadmap talks, focusing on addressing critical issues to achieve a lasting solution.

Somalia and Somaliland have agreed on the roadmap process and will establish a technical committee tasked with facilitating discussions within a 30-day timeframe.

As the chair of IGAD, President Guelleh is leading mediation efforts between the president of the Transitional Sovereignty Council of Sudan and the leader of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to find a lasting solution to the conflicts in Sudan, which have lasted for more than eight months.
