Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), expressed solidarity with the people and government of Djibouti amidst the recent floods and praised the bravery of Djiboutian forces and their partners in responding to the crisis.“The recent floods in our region highlight the pressing need to address climate change through mitigation and adaptation strategies. We must collaborate proactively to implement sustainable solutions and bolster our resilience against the impacts of climate change. IGAD is committed to supporting member states in cultivating a more resilient future for all.” Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Executive Secretary of IGAD said in a statement Friday.He urged caution and vigilance across the region, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety measures and disaster preparedness protocols to mitigate further harm and ensure the well-being of citizens.“As IGAD, we emphasize the importance of staying vigilant and unified in our approach to the ongoing climate change crisis. Our dedication to offering assistance through climate forecasts, mitigation, and adaptation strategies remains steadfast. By working together, we can bolster our resilience in effectively managing disasters”, the statement added.IGAD’s comment comes two days after Djibouti experienced heavy rains with floods which risked human lives and destroyed key infrastructures in the country.
