Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-A massive fire has on Sunday morning broken out at Somalia’s biggest market, Bakara in Mogadishu’s Howlwadaag district, causing extensive damage and property loss worth millions according to the authorities.The fire started early in the morning at Abdalla-Shidaye, electronics section in the main market and continued for hours, destroying numerous businesses, although no human casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire remains unclear.“We are trying to our best to contain the fire and not to spread to other buildings, Fire fighters from the local municipality and Hormuud Telecom Company are working on to extinguish it, we will give you more about the causes and loss of properties later”, Hawlwadag District Commissioner, Bashir Abdi Mohamed told local TV station.Video footages show huge fire destroying large parts of business building in the market and burning of roofs and other flamable items with blaze and smoke into the sky, despite fire-fighters’ using water tanks to stop it.The catastrophic fire incidents to the Somalia’s biggest market, Bakara became routine and there is no solution to manage them, it either happens half a year or annually with loss of millions of dollars.
