Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that it has launched an investigation into the fierce battle that occurred between the Somali National Army’s Danab forces and security guards attached to the speaker of Hirshabelle regional Parliament, Luqman Hajji Mohamud, at Jowhar Airport on Saturday.

The incident took place when the Somali National Army soldiers attacked the speaker’s convoy, which lead to the battle between the security forces.

In a statement released today, the Ministry of Defence said that the incident was regrettable and contrary to the principles of the Somali military, stating that those involved in the incident will be brought to justice and held accountable.

“The military command and the court of armed forces have initiated an investigation into the incident, and all individuals involved will be brought to justice as soon as possible,” the statement from the Ministry of Defence read.

The statement further added, “The Somali National Army forces remain steadfast and sacrificing their lives to protect the people, the country, and their religion. Any actions to the contrary to that do not reflect the moral behaviour and policies of the Somali National Army.”

Hirshabelle State’s Ministry of Internal Security has also condemned the attack on the Speaker convoy, which led to casualties including deaths and injuries among the soldiers.

In recent months, there have been several incidents involving clashes among the security forces and local community forces, referred to as ‘Macawisley,’ due to misunderstandings. These incidents have resulted in a lack of coordination between the forces involved in the fight against Al-Shabaab terrorists organisation.

Security experts have claimed that this lack of coordination has contributed to grave misunderstandings between the forces, leading to a resurgence of Al-Shabaab attacks on military bases and crowded areas such as markets, hotels, and checkpoints.
