By Sayyid OmarThe National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) forces conducted a well-planned and intense operation in the Basro area of the Lower Shabelle region, where 16 members of the Al-Shabaab group were killed, according to an official press statement from the agency.The operation, which took place yesterday, targeted commanders and fighters of the group who had been trapped for several days in a forested area near Basro.“This operation, which targeted the Khawarij in two separate attacks, successfully eliminated up to 16 members, including commanders and militants, who had been trapped in a forested area near Basro in recent days.” According to the NISA statement.The forces also destroyed military vehicles used by the Al-Shabaab group.NISA officials further emphasized that the operation is part of the ongoing fight to weaken Al-Shabaab’s power, with security forces targeting the group wherever they may be hiding.The statement also reiterated that the Somali government, with the support of international allies, is strengthening its efforts in the war against Al-Shabaab.This operation comes at a time when the Somali government forces, alongside local militias, have been engaged in intense battles with Al-Shabaab in the Middle Shabelle region in recent weeks.
