Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, also serving as the Acting President of IGAD, on Tuesday held a significant meeting with the IGAD Special Envoy to Sudan, Lawrence Korbani, focusing on assessing the current situation in Sudan.The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has lasted for over a year, has resulted in a high number of casualties, a dire humanitarian crisis, and extensive destruction of infrastructure.During the meeting, President Guelleh and Mr. Korbani underscored the urgent need for IGAD’s mediation in Sudan to achieve a ceasefire and ensure the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid.These objectives are at the forefront of IGAD’s agenda for Sudan, with efforts aimed at initiating a political settlement process for the crisis according to the statement from Presidency of Djibouti.The meeting was attended by IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, highlighting the organization’s commitment to resolving the Sudanese crisis and restoring stability to the region.
