Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, officially opened the 4th Session of the two Houses of the Parliament of the Federal Republic of Somalia on Saturday.

In his speech, the President addressed the achievements and progress of the country over the past 18 months, covering a wide range of issues, including the constitution and the total war against terrorism.

He stated that the government has achieved great success in the fight against Al-Shabaab and liberated more than 80 locations previously controlled by the Al-Shabaab.

“To stand as stable, we have two key roles to attract global actions. We need to free the country from Al-Shabaab. International partners can provide resources such as food items, weapons, and fuel but won’t give us frontline forces,” the President said.

“We have been given frontline forces but couldn’t liberate the country from Al-Shabaab for more than a decade. Now, when we started to fight them on our own and had our youth at the frontline, we have defeated Al-Shabaab and liberated more than 80 locations,” he added.

The President also stated that the government has blocked and cut Al-Shabaab’s network and financial transactions, cutting down their sources of money.

He ruled out any dialogue between the government and Al-Shabaab, stating that the government is committed to eliminating Al-Shabaab through offensive war rather than dialogue.
