Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Somali National Army has killed 5 Al-Shabaab militants in offensive operations conducted on Saturday in the Geriley and Ali-yabaal areas of the Galgadud Region.

General Ali Aanood, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence, confirmed the operations and reported that the National Army have also destroyed the militants’ hideouts and seized their weapons during the operation.

He added that similar operations were conducted in the Jirjir-hireey area, situated between Ruun-nirgood in Middle Shabelle and Galgadud regions. General Anood pointed out that these areas are now under the control of government security forces.

The Spokesman further highlighted that the army is conducting operations in additional Al-Shabaab hideouts, with a strategic focus on Elbur and Galhareeri, which are the only districts that remain under the control of Al-Shabaab within the region.

These offensive operations come two days after the Somali President assured the nation of the government’s unwavering commitment to intensify actions against Al-Shabaab. He pledged to eradicate the group completely within the next two years during a public engagement session in Dhusamareb, the administrative capital of Galmudug State.
