Mahaday(Mogadishu24)-Somali National Army’s elite forces (Gor-gor)Unit on Tuesday morning conducted operations at Ciid-Ciidka areas near Mahaday district in middle Shabelle region following reports of suspected Al-Shabaab fighters presence there in the past three weeks.

According to military sources, the special forces did not face any resistance or clashes with Al-Shabaab during the operation. There were also airstrikes in the region, but officials did not provide further details yet so far.

Al-Shabaab fighters have reportedly entered an area under Mahaday district in the region, where they have been crossing the river for the past one week.

Earlier, Government and local community forces known as ‘Macawisley’ have launched operations against these militants who entered the area, involving direct battles and bombings.

The HirShabelle State said that they were aware of the presence of these militants and have initiated a heavy attacks against Al-Shabaab.

The State’s Minister of Security, Mohamed Abdirahman Kheyre, has ordered the armed forces to remain vigilant against any potential attacks by Al-Shabaab.
