Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Minister of foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama (Huruse) on Monday resigned following his intention to run for Puntland State Presidency on January 8, 2024.

The Minister said that decision to leave the job is his own, thanking the Federal Government of Somalia for the opportunity to serve his nation well.

“I decide to leave the position of Minister of foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, believing that I served my nation honestly and kept the big responsibility in which the Government entrusted me. I am going to run for the Presidency of Puntland State therefore, I need to get time for my campaign to that seat”, Jama said.

He said that he was pleased to resign that position.

This comes as three weeks before the Puntland State election to happen, despite disputes related to election model and time, Puntland State is preparing to hold the parliamentary election on time.
