Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sh. Mohamud held phone conversation with United Nations’ Secretary General, Antonio Gutters on maintaining regional stability and adherence to the International law on sovereignty and territorial integrity on Wednesday evening.

“The Secretary-General spoke today with His Excellency, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, at his request. He took note of Somalia’s concern regarding the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and “Somaliland” announced on 1 January. He recalled that the Security Council has repeatedly affirmed its respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Somalia”, UNSOM said in a statement after the talks.

The Secretary-General hoped that all parties will engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue and to refrain from any actions that could further escalate the situation.  

“H.E @HassanSMohamud spoke with UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres .The call addressed the importance of maintaining regional stability and adherence to international laws on sovereignty and territorial integrity. The UN’s commitment to these principles is greatly appreciated”, Villa Somalia said on X post.

The phone call talks between the Somali President, Hassan Sh. Mohamud and UN Secretary-General comes a week after the Ethiopian Government entered port deal agreement with the breakaway republic of Somalia, worsening tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia.
