Cairo, Egypt-(Mogadishu24)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sh. Mohamud is in an official visit to Cairo, Egypt after receiving invitation from his counterpart,Abdelfattah Elsisi Al-Sisi early on this month, January, 2024.

“H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Cairo following an official invitation from President Abdelfattah Elsisi Al-Sisi. The two leaders are set to engage in crucial discussions on regional stability and strengthening the historical bonds between Somalia and Egypt”, Villa Somalia on X post this morning.

Egypt called for a respect to Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity following a sea access deal between Ethiopia and Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland after the two leaders, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Abdel Fattah El-Sisi by phone two days after the MoU.

President Hassan attended the 42nd IGAD Extra-ordinary Summit which also focussed on the tension between the Ethiopia and Somalia following the MoU with Somaliland, leasing sea access to Ethiopia on January 1st. Ethiopian Government boycotted the IGAD summit, but participated Non-Aligned Movement Summit yesterday in the same country, Uganda.
