Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s National Intelligence and security agency (NISA) have arrested 10 individuals who are allegedly suspected of being Al-Shabaab agents within different government institutions.Daud Aweis Jama, the Federal Minister for Information, stated that the National Intelligence and Security Agency has detained officials who allegedly shared sensitive government information with Al-Shabaab militants after conducting comprehensive investigations.“The NISA agency, engaged in arresting Al-Shabaab’s spies within various government bodies, and arrested 10 individuals linked to their activities. These arrests were made following thorough investigations based on intelligence information,” said Minister Daud.The minister revealed that among the accused individuals, two were security department officials who were discovered to be Al-Shabaab Agents. However, they managed to escape arrest. He further urged the public to report any intelligence they might have regarding such individuals to the security agencies.“The Somali Defense Forces are committed to prioritizing security, especially safeguarding the sensitive information of government entities, particularly details about the National Army’s operations against Al-Shabaab,” he added.Minister Aweys issued a warning to both government agencies and the public, urging them not to engage with the accused individuals in order to remain on the side of caution.“It is important for both the public and government agencies to refrain from interactions with these individuals, as they will face legal consequences,” the minister stated.These come amidst increasing criticism of the security agencies by the public and security experts due to frequent Al-Shabaab attacks. Critics have alleged that these attacks were planned by security personnel within the security department, particularly the explosive attack on Jaalle Siyad Military Training College.
