Baghdad(Mogadishu24)-Somalia’s National Security Adviser, Hussein Moallim, met with Iraq’s National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, in Baghdad to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and security cooperation between the two countries. The Somali delegation, on an official visit to Iraq, engaged in extensive discussions on various issues of mutual interest Monday.

During the meeting, the two sides explored ways to strengthen ties and enhance cooperation in combating terrorism, ensuring regional security, and exchanging expertise and information on security matters. Both advisers emphasized the significance of close collaboration for the benefit of their respective countries and the broader region.

“Strengthening security cooperation between Somalia and Iraq is crucial for combating terrorism and promoting stability in our regions,” said Hussein Moallim. “Our discussions have laid the groundwork for a robust partnership that serves the interests of both nations and contributes to global security.”

Qasim al-Araji echoed these sentiments, highlighting the shared challenges and opportunities for collaboration.

“Our dialogue today reaffirms the importance of working together to tackle common security threats and enhance the safety and well-being of our peoples,” al-Araji noted. “This partnership will be instrumental in addressing the security challenges facing not only our nations but also the wider region.”

The two advisers exchanged views on current affairs and underscored the need for ongoing collaboration and information sharing. The discussions included plans for future joint initiatives and potential areas of cooperation in combating terrorism and enhancing security measures.

“We have agreed on several initiatives that will enhance our cooperation in critical security areas and ensure a more secure and stable environment for our citizens,” Moallim added.

The Somali delegation’s visit to Iraq also includes meetings with other national security agencies and senior government officials. The delegation is scheduled to visit key national installations to further strengthen the bilateral relationship and explore additional avenues for cooperation.
