Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development of Somalia, Minister Mohamud Abdirahman Beenebene and the Executive Secretary of Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), held discussions on Friday, addressing critical issues affecting Somalia, including security, bilateral relations, and socio-economic developments.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in development programs, socio-economic advancement, and enhancing bilateral collaboration between Somalia and other countries under IGAD.

“Pleased to have had a productive meeting with Dr. Workneh, the Executive Secretary of IGAD in Djibouti. Our meeting focused on strengthening collaboration regarding programs that guarantee sustainable socio-economic development and enhancing bilateral cooperation,” he said.

Dr. Workneh, the Executive Secretary of IGAD, said they have discussed key issues, including the improvement of Somalia’s security and identifying areas of intervention for the benefit of Somalia and the region.

“I received the Minister of Planning, Investment & Economic Development of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hon Beenebeene in my office today. We discussed the improving security situation in Somalia as well as areas of intervention in which IGAD is engaged for the benefit of the country and the region,” he stated.

Somalia’s regional presence has recently increased as the country maintains strong bilateral relations, mutual interests, and ties with its neighbouring countries. Just a week ago, Somalia joined the Great Green Wall Initiative and revealed a huge financial commitment of 10 million dollars to it in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
