Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has on Saturday officially taken office, following his appointment as a Minister for this post on April 7, leaving from the Internal Ministry.

State Minister for the Ministry, Ali Mohamed Omar made the handing over ceremony as he was serving as the acting Minister of foreign Minister since early on December 2023, former Minister, Abshir Omar Haruse resigned.

Somalia faced challenges related to its foreign policy in the past three months, following the domestic intervention of Ethiopia after signing a port deal with Somaliland, leasing 20 KM of sea access to Ethiopia in exchange for recognition.

Somalia also intends to run for the leadership of the African Union Commissoin and nominated its candidate for the post.
