Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Government of Somalia has offered an Amnesty opportunity and a call for Al-Shabaab fighters who are willing to defect from the extremist group and surrender themselves to the Somali government.

In an statement released on Sunday, the National Center for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (Tubsan) stated that the government is committed to guide all Al-Shabaab fighters who are willing to disassociate from the militants group and surrender to the government.

“The Government is always ready to guide you towards a more promising life and future. Therefore, reassess these ideologies propagated by the terrorists and make the most advantages from this opportunity bestowed upon you by the Somali government,” reads the statement.

The statement noted that those who defect the militants group will be provided opportunities to reintegrate into regular life, and further provided hotline numbers to facilitate the process.

Furthermore, the statement urged parents to share the information of their children who want to surrender to the government.

This comes a week after the Government of Somalia established the National Counter-terrorism Centre and appointed the former Federal Minister of internal security Abdullahi Mohamed Nor as the Director and Ibrahim Aden as the Deputy Director.

This center was aimed at preventing radicalization, countering extremist ideologies, and providing counter-narratives against the beliefs of Al-Shabaab militants group.
