Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed on Sunday held meeting with UN Envoy to Somalia, Catriona Laing and Wafaa ElFadil, UNICEF country Representative here in Mogadishu.“We discussed the significance for the Government to prioritizing the protection of the children, abuse, child recruitment in the army. The UN representatives praised Government’s efforts towards children’s rights”, he said.Both envoys from United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund did not provide details over their discussions with the Minster of Defense of Somalia.But in October, 2019, the Federal Government of Somalia renewed its commitment to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers by signing a roadmap detailing the measures and practical actions to prevent violations against children, release children associated with armed forces, and reintegrate them into the communities according to the UN report.
