Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Federal Republic of Somalia has on Saturday expressed its appreciation for the Communiqué issued by the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Capri, Italy, from April 16 to 19 and highlighted the G7’s commitment to addressing critical issues in the Horn of Africa, including food insecurity, poverty, armed conflict, extreme weather conditions, and displacement.

Somalia praised the G7’s focus on advancing peace, security, and stability in the region and recognized the value of ongoing humanitarian aid and international cooperation. “We commend the G7’s commitment to advancing peace, security, and stability in the region,” stated a Somali government spokesperson.

In its response, Somalia also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding regional peace and security and expressed eagerness to strengthen collaboration with the G7 and other international partners. The statement emphasized Somalia’s ongoing efforts to enhance its institutional, macroeconomic, and security frameworks, including the fight against Al Shabaab.

However, Somalia also addressed a significant diplomatic concern with Ethiopia. The Somali government called for the revocation of what it described as an illegal memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and the northern Somali region of Somaliland, citing the need for respect for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and principle of non-interference.

The statement also highlighted the importance of the smooth transition of security responsibilities from the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to national forces, describing it as vital for national stability. “Somalia is actively collaborating with the African Union and international partners to effectively plan and execute this transition,” the government affirmed.

Somalia’s response to the G7 Communiqué underscores its commitment to addressing regional challenges through strengthened international partnerships and continued progress in security and institutional development.
