Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Ministry of Education and Higher Education on Saturday welcomed the decision of the two Houses of the federal parliament of Somalia to pass the 2024 budget, which gives special priority to the Ministry of Education.

The Minister of Education, Mr. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, expressed gratitude to the government and the parliament for increasing the allocation of the ministry’s budget for the expansion, development, and improvement of education in the country.

“The Ministry of Education, Heritage, and Higher Education welcomes the decision of the two houses of parliament to pass the budget for the 2024 fiscal year, which places special emphasis on the education sector.”

“The ministry’s budget allocation has been increased, providing it with the opportunity and resources to expand, develop, and improve the quality of education in the country,” reads the statement from the Ministry of Education.

The minister revealed that the ministry plans to hire three thousand (3000) new teachers at the beginning of 2024, as the second phase of the National Education Programme, aiming to reach millions of Somalis who still do not have access to the educational opportunities they are entitled to.

He stated that the ministry will engage in an open and transparent competition for the recruitment, training, and employment of the three thousand new teachers, while prioritizing female teachers and teachers working in areas that have been liberated from Al-Shabaab militants.

The minister commended the vital role played by the ministries of education of the federal member states for their efficiency and participation in the recruitment, training, and placement of the initial three thousand (3,000) teachers attached to government institutions. He urged them to prepare for the process of recruiting new teachers in the second phase in 2024.
