Hargeysa(Mogadishu24)-Minister of Foreign Affairs for the breakaway Republic of Somaliland, Esse Kayd announced that the Memorandum of Understanding with Ethiopia, leasing 20 kilometers of sea access to Ethiopia will be completed within two months’ period.

He said that negotiation between the Somaliland and Ethiopia about the execution of the MoU is going on as the two sides set up committees who were assigned to coordinate the completion of the deal signed by President Muse and Prime Minister, Abiy on January 1st, 2024.

Somaliland entered the sensitive MoU with Ethiopia in exchange for recognition for months ago, but caused strong diplomatic tension between Somalia and Ethiopia and Somalia termed the deal as null and void, accusing the neighboring country of violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.

Somalia gained wide support and solidarity with its case over defending its sovereignty from the world, calling for a respect to the unity of Somalia. The tension still remains unsolved despite attempts for possible talks between the two countries in Kenya and Djibouti respectively.
