Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Turkey has condemned Saturday’s terrorist attack by Al-Shabaab militants on a Somali National Army (SNA) base in Ceel-Dheer town, Galgudud region under Galmudug State. The assault resulted in significant casualties, with militants overrunning the base and causing extensive damage.“We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist attack and wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives. We extend our condolences to their families and to the friendly and brotherly people and Government of Somalia and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” the Turkish government stated. “Türkiye will continue to stand by Somalia in its fight against terrorism”, Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkey said in a statement. Al-Shabaab militant group has taken responsibility for the assault, claiming it dealt a severe blow to Somali forces. It said that its fighters killed 59 SNA soldiers, including two commanders, and the captured several vehicles, weapons, and ammunition.In response, the Somali Government denied the extent of Al-Shabaab’s claims, asserting that 47 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and several others injured during the attack and subsequent clashes. The Government emphasized its ongoing commitment to combating terrorism and securing the region despite the severe attack.This incident underscores the persistent security challenges in Somalia, where Al-Shabaab continues to pose a significant threat. The Somali Government called for continued international support in its fight against terrorism, highlighting the need for solidarity in maintaining regional stability and security.
