Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The United Nations in Somalia has extended its congratulations to the Somali Government and its people following the country’s election to a seat on the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term.

“Somalia has come a long way over the past three decades on its path to peace, prosperity, and security. Election to a seat on the Security Council is recognition of that commendable progress,” stated James Swan, the UN Secretary-General’s Acting Special Representative for Somalia.

Swan emphasized that Somalia’s unique experiences place it in a valuable position to contribute to the Council’s deliberations on international peace and security.

This marks Somalia’s return to the Security Council since it last served from 1970 to 1972, reflecting the nation’s significant strides in achieving stability and growth. The UN commended Somalia’s progress and looks forward to its contributions on the global stage.
