Galkacyo(Mogadishu24)-An 11-year-old boy was sodomised and murdered in Galkacyo town under Puntland State Administration on Saturday according to the City’s General Hospital.

The hospital’s official report revealed that the victim, Abdinasir Yussuf Jihad, was brought to the hospital’s emergency response unit already dead.

The report indicated that the boy’s body showed signs of strangulation, with injuries to his throat, suggesting that he had been strangled with a rope. Furthermore, the investigation confirmed that he had also been sexually assaulted.

“We confirm that the deceased mentioned above was admitted to the hospital’s emergency response unit while he was already dead on October 21, 2023, at 5:30 AM. The deceased had injuries on the neck, indicating that he was strangled with a rope and was sodomized,” the hospital report read.

In 2019, Galkacyo was also witness to the brutal rape and murder of Aisha Ilyas Adan, a 12-year-old girl. The Puntland state government announced that they have arrested the criminals after conducting successful DNA tests leading to their conviction and sentencing to death.

In recent years, there has been a rise in reported cases of sodomy, defilement and rape among the Somali community, which are attributed to ‘Maslaha,’ a traditional resolution system among Somalis.

Over 90% of these cases have been resolved through the implementation of this traditional Somali resolution system, leaving lasting impacts on the victims.

Unfortunately, this system has also created an environment where immoral actions such as gender-based violence, rape, sodomy, and even robbery are on the rise.
