Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The African Union has appointed Mr. Sivuyile Thandikhaya Bam as the Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to Somalia, marking a significant step in bolstering its leadership within the region.

Mr. Bam, hailing from South Africa, arrived at the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) headquarters in Mogadishu on February 25, 2024, ready to undertake his new role.

With a rich background in conflict resolution, Mr. Bam has previously served as the Head of the Peace Support Operations Division at the African Union Commission, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing major peacekeeping initiatives across Africa.

His experience spans several key missions, including the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and the African-led International Support Mission in Mali (AFISMA).

Mr. Bam’s appointment is expected to significantly enhance the operational capabilities and effectiveness of ATMIS in Somalia, as he brings to the table extensive experience and a proven track record in peace and security operations. His leadership comes at a crucial time as Somalia continues to face challenges on its path to stability and peace according to a statement from ATMIS.
