Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Cabinet Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia on Wednesday approved Defense Agreement between Somalia and Turkey during a special meeting in Mogadishu.

“On a momentous occasion, the cabinet has endorsed a defense collaboration pact between Somalia and the esteemed Rep. of #Turkey, a NATO member and close ally. This landmark 10-year pact will significantly bolster the #Somalia govt’s endeavors to safeguard its sovereignty”, Minister of Information of Somalia, Daud Aweis Jama said on X former twitter.

“Today the Council of Ministers approved the Somali/Turkey Defense Agreement, this is befitting to the proverbial Somali maxim of “be a mountain or lean one”, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Somalia, Abdirizak Omar Mohamed said.

Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi who was chairing today’s cabinet meeting, appreciated the government of Turkey and its people for their continuous support to the government and the people of Somalia.

Somalia and Turkey signed Defense and Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement on February 8, 2024, a key step that will significantly elevate Türkiye-Somalia relations and substantially contribute to enhancing peace and security in Somalia and the Horn of Africa region according to Somali Ministry of Defense.

Yesterday, Defense Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur announced that he signed Defense Cooperation with his Ugandan Counterpart, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja here in Mogadishu.
