Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Djibouti President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, on this week commissioned new ports of the Container Terminal of Doraleh, (SGTD), the national public establishment in charge of the Multipurpose Port of Doraleh with a container terminal, a petrol terminal and a free zone.

He said in a statement that the new ports will correspond to state-of-the-art equipment, specifically designed to meet the service required by the largest vessels, including the 23,000 EVP (Twenty Feet Equivalent), 135 meters in height.

With a capacity of 100 movements per hour, the highest current pace in terms of task execution, the new SGTD ports increase our country’s vocation to play a port leadership role in the region according to the statement.

The acquisition of these equipment is part of the constant modernization characterizing, under the impulse of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Ismail Omar Gueleh, the port arrangements of our country.

They are undoubtedly also proof of the costly investments the Republic of Djibouti willingly agrees to maintain its status as a port leader in the region and meet the challenges of international competition.

The President described “the new port of the SGTD an additional and decisive step in our country’s ongoing quest to endow all the attributes indispensable to its status as a port leader in the region.

“In addition to the repercussions for our country, the commissioning of these equipment connects our region to greater economic diversity and, as a result, to the prospect of a higher level of exchange in trade relations,” noted President Guelleh.

He reiterated Djibouti’s commitment to continue its efforts towards integration and regional cooperation on the grounds that these are key vectors of stability and prosperity for the societies of our region.

On his side, Spokesperson and Minister of foreign Affairs, Mohamud Ali Yusef said that the Djibouti port facilities will handle 600 000 up to 1 000 000 containers , 50% of which will be for transhipment in this year 2024.
