Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The Independent Constitutional Review Commission of Somalia (ICRICS) convened a meeting on Saturday to discuss the feedback and inputs from the Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee (OC) regarding the draft constitution of Somalia.The Constitutional Oversight and Implementation Committee submitted a report to the ICRIC on proposed amendments in the first four chapters of the Constitution last Tuesday.During today’s meeting, the Independent Constitutional Review Commission (ICRIC) considered the report and incorporated it into chapters 1-4 of the constitution.The Commission further stated that the draft constitution will be presented to civil society organizations, relevant agencies at both the federal government and federal member states before being submitted to the Federal Parliament.“ICRIC convened a meeting to discuss feedback from the OC. After careful consideration, it incorporated suggestions into chapters 1-4. Now available for consultation with civil society organizations, government agencies at the federal & FMS level, and submission to the FPS,” said ICRIC on X.This comes a week after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the constitution.The president underscored the importance of finalizing the constitution, stating that it will be flexible, with changes made in response to evolving circumstances.“It is not a matter of differences in opinions or addressing every concern, but we are committed to discussing with every concerned party as much as possible,” President Mohamud said.He called on the relevant parties to expedite the completion of the constitution and affirmed his commitment to it since his re-election in 2021.
